want to come and eat at esra? here are some tips on securing a table:1. we'll open up all of the bookings for the month ahead in the first week of the preceding month. okay, that's a lot of words, here's what we mean with an example: all of the reservations for september will be released in the first week of august, and all of the reservations for october in the first week of september. si? si! here are the dates for the next couple of months:reservations for september will be released on 5 augustreservations for october will be released on 4 septemberreservations for november will be released on 5 october2. is your chose date fully booked? add yourself to the waitlist. you'll automatically receive an email if someone else cancels and a table frees up. make sure to get in there fast! everyone on the waitlist will get the same email. the person who clicks the link first and completes their booking secures the table.
you can book a spot for one person all the way up to four people. if you're a solo diner, we'll reserve a spot on the kitchen counter for you. basically, you'll be hanging out with the cool kids (us) during your meal. for groups of two: you can choose to reserve at the kitchen counter or at a table. did we mention the kitchen counter is where all the cool kids sit? plus, the seats are very comfortable with proper backrests. groups of three: we have both tables and kitchen counter spots available. if you choose the kitchen counter, you'll be seated on a corner (for easy conversation). groups of four are automatically booked onto a table.
you can cancel up to one day (i.e. 24 hours) before your reservation and we'll return your downpayment to you. you can cancel via the link in your confirmation email.
short answer: it depends! best to check with us beforehand.we’re a very small restaurant with an even smaller kitchen, and a chef that cooks what she feels like. short and concise menus mean we simply don’t have the capacity to adapt dishes or create one-off alternatives for all allergies and dietary requriements. what we can/cannot accomodate also changes per menu (and those menus change often).in general, we can accommodate (with advance notice of 24 hours): vegetarian diet pescatarian diet nut allergy coeliac disease / gluten intolerance what is much harder for us to accommodate: dairy allergy or lactose intolerance (especially cream, butter, and soft cheeses)pepper and chilli allergy (including paprika and bell peppers), tomato allergyonion and garlic allergy sulphur dioxide allergy sesame allergyvegan diet we can't alter dishes on our menu to suit dislikes (such as a dislike for fresh herbs, coriander, garlic, etc.)
when in doubt or you'd like to chat, please don’t hesitate to reach out! you can find us at hello@esra.amsterdam.
yes! and you should too.
a few times a year, we close the restaurant for some much rest & relaxation. our planned holidays in 2026 (so far) are:
sunday 1 march until wednesday 11 march (reopening thursday 12 march)
saturday 11 april until wednesday 22 april (reopening thursday 23 april)
sunday 21 june until wednesday 1 july (reopening thursday 2 july)
sunday 23 august until wednesday 9 september (reopening thursday 10 september)
you'll find a link in your confirmation email to send us a message. please give us at least 24 hours' notice for any changes.
for example: if you have a reservation for saturday evening but need to change the date or the time, please get in touch before friday afternoon. thanks!
really, really can't find what you're looking for? then send us an email at hello@esra.amsterdam.
an esra gift voucher, of course. you can buy them here.
we are open thursday, friday and saturday evening for dinner from 18.00. we are also open saturday for lunch from 12.00.
throughout the year, we're closed for some holidays (because work-life balance is a thing! and it's achievable). these are our planned-in holidays, so far:
sunday 1 march until wednesday 11 march (reopening thursday 12 march)
saturday 11 april until wednesday 22 april (reopening thursday 23 april)
sunday 21 june until wednesday 1 july (reopening thursday 2 july)
sunday 23 august until wednesday 9 september (reopening thursday 10 september)
we try to keep one table (for two) each evening free for walk-ins. your best bet is early in the evening (when we open at 18.00) to grab a spot.
please be kind if someone got there before you, or we don't have a table available that evening. this is sometimes how the proverbial cookie crumbles, and we cannot guarantee a walk-in space every single evening.
if you want to be absolutely 1000% sure that you can eat with us, reservations are the way.
no. or, you can try, but we very rarely pick up. but you can send us a whatsapp message on +31 6 1471 88 98.
we try to answer messages wednesday through to saturday. please be patient with us if it takes a little longer than that, we might be busy polishing cutlery, chatting to our bookkeeper, frying onions, or (on very rare occasions), enjoyed a well-deserved day off.
dogs, kids and in-laws welcome (if well-behaved).do send us a message beforehand if you're bringing them, so we can organize an appropriate table for you.for all of three of these diners, it is good to know: we're a very small restaurant, and on busy evenings it can get quite noisy in here!
